Red Baraat tours the UK, closes out Paralympics and featured in The Guardian

Red Baraat will tour the UK for the first time. Look for us on the Isle of Wright at Bestival, at London’s Rich Mix, in Manchester, Brighton, Birmingham, Leicester, and closing out the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Trafalgar Square. Red Baraat is featured in The Guardian (UK) after their performance at Rich Mix in London and interviewed by Nosheen Iqbal. “Banging out their high-octane fusion of all of the above, they’re irresistible: serial party-starters.” Read Article.

1st European tour

We had our 1st proper tour of mainland Europe from May 15-28 supporting the release of our debut album “Chaal Baby” on Jaro Medien. We had performances in Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Germany and led off the tour at Jazz sous les Pommiers in Coutances, France. My dhol never made the flight with me and was sitting back in JFK.  So my “dhol du jour” consisted of a timbale and floor tom laying on their sides and I carved own sticks from the bamboo tree outside the venue right before show. Didn’t hold us back…2 encores!

The White House (Barack Obama’s residence)

The experience of performing at the White House was a personal and career milestone.  It was an honor and privilege to be asked and join the National Philanthropic Briefing on the Initiative on Asian-American and Pacific Islanders.  It was illuminating and inspiring to be among so many talented and committed individuals working on behalf of the AAPI community.  It was also informative for me to participate in the arts and culture breakout session and hear all the great ideas discussed, specifically, the cultural preservation of the AAPI community through The Smithsonian Museum and the use of technology to support and help the arts flourish.  I would love to also see arts education fitting into the equation of AAPI support.

Red Baraat's 1st Annual Festival of Colors

We sold out Le Poisson Rouge, NYC for Red Baraat’s 1st Annual Festival of Colors! What a blast and can’t wait to do it again next year. In recognition of Holi, the most celebrated festival in India, Red Baraat’s Festival of Colors brings together community in a musical atmosphere filled with excitement and joy. Traditionally, a bonfire is built (“Holi” means burning) and people throw colored powder at one another, celebrating the end of winter and welcoming spring’s abundant colors.

West Coast tour: TED Conference, Google Campus and in da clubs!

TED

The TED conference closed out Red Baraat’s West Coast run, which started in Mountain View at the Google Campus.  Teddy Kartzman was gracious enough to hook us up with a lunch time play outdoors and what a cool experience it was.  If I didn’t play music, I’d want to find some type of job at Google.  The food cafes are unbelievable and the basketball courts, gym and bikes to get around!? I have to find a way to get enlisted as the Good Morning Dhol player.
